The Guardian Covers Lux College Tour
Lux offers an honest education
Dear readers,
We’re thrilled to share a new Guardian article about Lux: “Say gay: feminist magazine reclaims Charlie Kirk-style campus tours after Florida DEI cuts.” We’ve just launched a college tour in defiance of McCarthyite attacks on students’ right to learn about gender and race in America. If universities won’t offer an honest education, Lux can — and we will.
That’s why we kicked off the tour in Florida. Universities in Florida have made deals with ICE to police their campuses; New College has been nearly dismantled; and gender studies programs are dropping one by one. On our trip, we saw how these attacks are making it impossible for students to learn. And we couldn’t go two feet without seeing a “debate me” abortion booth.
So I was thrilled to meet with students, like Nya Jacobson, featured in the Guardian article, who know that they are part of the long fight for free expression on campus, and that the snowflake sensitivities of far-right politicians can’t stop them from tackling big intellectual questions that are core to their own lives.
We’ll be continuing our tour, visiting campuses where students rights are under attack. If you want Lux to visit your campus, write to us at [email protected].
If you would like to support this work, please donate here, or write to me at [email protected]. Let’s do this. —Sarah Leonard
